Drew McIntyre Becomes Undisputed WWE Champion As Major Star Costs Cody Rhodes
WWE Undisputed Championship was in focus throughout the night in Berlin, Germany. Drew McIntyre challenged Cody Rhodes to a Three Stages of Hell Match for the title a few weeks back.
He announced the stipulations for the match last week, stating that the first stage would be a straight wrestling match, the second stage would be a Falls Count Anywhere Match, and the final stage would be a Steel Cage match.
The two men have been at each other’s throats for the last few months, and tonight was the final time they’d come face-to-face for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Drew McIntyre wins the first stage on WWE SmackDown
Drew vowed that he would emerge victorious in the first stage of the match as he’d get Cody to disqualify himself by instigating him with Dusty Rhodes’ watch.
While Cody didn’t disqualify himself, Drew managed to get the win in the first stage after hitting a low blow on Cody while the referee wasn’t looking, and attacked him with a Claymore Kick to get the pin.
Cody Rhodes gets his win back in the second stage
After losing the first stage, it became imperative for Cody to win the Falls Count Anywhere stage. The two wrestlers wrestled across the Uber Arena, right from among the crowd, to going backstage.
Ultimately, Cody brought things back in his favor after hitting Drew with a Cross Rhodes on the announce table and pinned him right there to reach the third stage of hell, the Steel Cage match.
Both Cody and Drew were exhausted by the time they reached the third stage, but still gave it their all as they looked to be called the WWE Champion when the night came to an end.
Drew McIntyre finally gets his hands on the Undisputed WWE Title
They each kicked out of huge moves from either wrestler, frustrating the other as Cody was busted open during the match. The fans were firmly behind Drew throughout the match, as they had been all through the night.
Cody looked to get the win with his trifecta of Cross Rhodes, but Drew didn’t let him hit the third. The American Nightmare went face first into the exposed turnbuckle, and Drew caught him with a Claymore Kick for the win, but Cody got his arm up just in time.
The champion pulled out all the stops for the win and hit Drew with a Cody Cutter from the top of the cage, but McIntyre found the strength to kick out somehow.
Drew looked to get out of the ring but was stopped by a hooded figure, revealed to be Jacob Fatu. He attacked Drew in the ring before going after Cody Rhodes. This allowed Drew to get out of the ring before Cody and he finally became the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
