Donald Trump Picks Ex-WWE CEO Linda McMahon For Big Cabinet Post
Former WWE CEO Linda McMahon looks to have a major role to play in Donald Trump’s next cabinet.
After years as WWE CEO Linda McMahon left the company to pursue her own political ambitions. McMahon failed to win the US Senate election in Connecticut in 2010 and 2012 despite breaking spending records on her two bids.
McMahon moved into a fundraising/donor role for the Republican party and she struck gold when she hitched her wagon to Donald Trump’s presidential bid in 2016. Following Trump’s victory, Linda McMahon was named as small business administrator in his cabinet.
Now, with Trump about to return to power in the US once again, Linda McMahon is set to have an even bigger role.
Linda McMahon Heading To Department For Education
McMahon is Trump’s transition co-chair and CNN has reported that the President-Elect has named McMahon as his pick to be the next secretary of the Department of Education. McMahon was passed over for the same role in the Department of Commerce with that going to Trump’s other transition co-chair Howard Lutnick.
In a statement confirming his pick, Donald Trump gave his reasons for selecting McMahon for the role:
Linda will use her decades of Leadership experience, and deep understanding of both Education and Business, to empower the next Generation of American Students and Workers, and make America Number One in Education in the World. We will send Education BACK TO THE STATES, and Linda will spearhead that effort.
With Donald Trump threatening to abolish the Department for Education, Linda McMahon’s experience of slashing budgets in WWE could come into play.
According to Open Secrets, Trump donated $5,000 to McMahon’s Senate campaign in 2012 while Linda McMahon has donated over $7 million to Trump super PACs to help get him elected as President twice.
