Don Callis is so good at getting people angry that one fan in Mexico decided to physically assault the heel manager.

When it comes to getting heat for his role as a manager in AEW, Don Callis really good at his job. Currently, Callis is managing Konosuke Takeshita in AEW and he’s recruiting his good friend Chris Jericho to join the “family.”

All of this came after Callis turned on Kenny Omega, who grew up knowing Callis almost like a legitimate family member. When Omega was the AEW World Champion in 2020, he was a heel and Callis was by his side for everything. That ended when Callis turned on Omega earlier this year.

The main event of AAA TripleMania XXXI in Tijuana, Mexico saw El Hijo del Vikingo defend the AAA Mega Championship against AEW’s Kenny Omega. When they met on March 22nd on AEW Dynamite, Omega won the non-title match. This time around, Vikingo got the win to retain his championship.

Don Callis tried to be ringside for the match to support Vikingo and be against Omega, but Konnan showed up to tell Callis he had to go to the back.

There was a post-show press conference where Kenny Omega was confronted by Don Callis, which led to Konosuke Takeshita showing up to attack Omega. All of that was just an angle, but then things got serious when a fan attacked Callis.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer/F4W, Don Callis was attacked by a fan from behind at the press conference.

“Everything was an angle up to that point, but then a fan who was apparently upset about what Don had said to Kenny jumped Don from behind, ripped his suit, concussed his eardrum and busted open his mouth while he was trying to choke out Don from behind. Don was screaming profanities at the fan before he was pulled off, and was said to be livid afterwards.”

According to Alvarez, the fan attacking Callis was “absolutely not a work.” Callis was dealing with an injured neck and ankle from the attack. Callis was taken to San Diego for medical attention.

There is a video of the incident. It doesn’t show that much and it’s toward the end of the video, but it does show a random man attacking Callis.

Kenny Omega will step into the double cage during the AEW Blood & Guts match this coming Wednesday as he teams with The Elite’s “Hangman” Adam Page, Nick Jackson, Matt Jackson & Kota Ibushi against The Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and their partners Konosuke Takeshita and Pac.

Everybody at TJRWrestling wishes Don Callis good health after the attack. Pro wrestling heels are known for getting heat and riling up the fans, but they should never be attacked by fans. It sounds like a scary situation, but hopefully, Don will be okay.
