Dominik Mysterio Shares Unique Idea WWE Wanted For Custody Match

WWE Rey Dominik Mysterio Eddie Guerrero

Dominik Mysterio has revealed what WWE wanted to do for the infamous Rey Mysterio-Eddie Guerrero match at SummerSlam 2005.

As a current WWE superstar, Dominik Mysterio is known for being one of the biggest heels in the business. Ever since “Dirty” Dom turned on his father Rey Mysterio two years ago, he has been booed loudly everywhere he has gone.

While the adult version of Dom gets booed a lot, WWE fans will remember him first from the summer 2005 storyline involving his father Rey and Eddie Guerrero, who claimed to be his real father.

This led to a Ladder Match at SummerSlam 2005 between Rey and Eddie where the winner was determined by retrieving a briefcase above the ring. It’s a unique stipulation that hasn’t been done many times in any pro wrestling company.

At the time of the match, Dominik was about eight years old. While speaking on Logan Paul’s ImPaulsive podcast, Dirty Dom recalled what he felt during that Rey-Eddie battle.

“There was part of me that…I knew the differences, but there are certain points where it was hard to find the difference. Especially when Eddie was in the ring. I was one of those fortunate people who can say I got to step in the ring with Eddie Guerrero.”

“There was one point in the match where I slid in, I went to shake the ladder, and he turns around from up top and starts shaking his finger. As he’s coming down, I don’t remember what was planned, but I remember he backing me up into the corner, veiny red, screaming his lungs out at me. ‘I’m going to teach you how to be a Guerrero.’ I don’t remember any of this as a kid as far as us going over what was going to happen. I just remember being backed up into this corner by Eddie, him raising his hand.”

“My deadbeat dad comes out of nowhere, turns him around, and they get into the match. I’m so frozen. You see the ref Charles Robinson, he pulls me from under the ring. ‘Let’s go.’ I’m frozen.”

Dominik Mysterio Reveals WWE Wanted To Put Him In A Cage

As he continued sharing memories of the legendary SummerSlam match, Dominik said that WWE wanted to put him in a cage above the ring.

“Did you hear what they originally wanted to do to me? They wanted to hang me from a cage. Not even from a cage. They wanted to actually hang me, like on a waist thing and have me dangle there. Yeah [like a Money In The Bank briefcase], but a kid. Me.”

Thankfully, that didn’t happen. Rey Mysterio would go on to win the match and officially gain custody of his son Dominik.
