Dominik Mysterio Explains Why He Targeted John Cena On WWE Raw
Dominik Mysterio’s mindset cost him against John Cena.
On the November 10 episode of Monday Night Raw, John Cena ticked off one final career milestone. After being confronted by Dominik Mysterio in front of a hot crowd in Boston, Cena beat “Dirty Dom” to claim the Intercontinental Championship.
As a result, Cena has now won every major championship WWE has to offer, finally becoming a grand slam champion.
The match was made after Mysterio confronted Cena as he addressed the crowd. That decision ended up costing him, as Triple H quickly made a match between the pair for Mysterio’s title.
Dominik Mysterio Wanted John Cena’s Spotlight
During an appearance on the Towers of Power Pro Wrestling Podcast, Mysterio reflected on losing the Intercontinental Title to Cena in Boston. When asked about how he prepared to confront Cena, Mysterio said he had one goal: he wanted the spotlight.
With the entire night set up around Cena, Mysterio said he knew he had to walk out and make everything about him instead.
“For me it wasn’t even (about) preparing it was just making that moment about me. Because I knew I was going to be in there with obviously John Cena and Triple H in Boston, TD Garden.
Everything was perfectly in place for John Cena and it was his night, so I went out there I made sure it was about me.”
Mysterio added that he was unfazed by the hostile reaction from the crowd as he’s chosen to embrace the noise.
“No that doesn’t get to me at all because that’s the thing about being booed, you’ve got to embrace it. Some people don’t like it but as long as you’re getting some noise out of people that’s all that matters.”
Following his win over Mysterio, John Cena will kick off the November 17 episode of Raw when he wrestles on the red brand for the final time. The match will also be his last at Madison Square Garden.
Despite the announcement, there’s no word on who Cena will be facing. This has led to speculation that he’ll be hosting an open challenge as he famously did with the United States Championship.
