Dominik Mysterio has escaped again with the Intercontinental Championship on WWE RAW.

The 28-year-old has held the Intercontinental Title since WrestleMania 41. After successfully retaining the title against AJ Styles on the September 1st episode of RAW, Dirty Dom put the championship on the line again tonight against Rusev.

Although The Judgment Day member took the first shot, the Bulgarian star quickly took control of the match. Despite Mysterio’s attempts to get back into the match, Rusev continued to overpower him.

Rusev was also close to capturing the title after hitting his opponent with a Machka Kick, but Dirty Dom miraculously kicked out right before the third count.

Mysterio then left the ring, grabbed his titles, and attempted to leave, but was stopped by his opponent. After getting thrown back into the ring, Dirty Dom tried to get Rusev disqualified by acting as if the latter hit him with the Intercontinental Title belt. However, the referee Eddie Orengo saw it.

Dirty Dom then hit Rusev with a mule kick low blow behind the referee’s back before rolling up for the victory to retain the title.

Will Dominik Mysterio Face John Cena At WWE Survivor Series?

On a recent episode of Cheap Heat, WWE analyst Peter Rosenberg discussed John Cena’s potential opponents after AJ Styles as his retirement tour approaches its end.

The 46-year-old suggested that Dominik Mysterio for a match against the 17-time world champion, stating that it would be amazing for the “number one hated new heel” to fight Cena. Rosenberg also pointed out that it could take place at Survivor Series in Dirty Dom’s hometown of San Diego, which could leave fans conflicted about how to react to the Intercontinental Champion.

I agree that it doesn’t need to be new blood, and we don’t need to force it. But can we also say that if you’re going to do that, make it cool and meaningful, and Cena and Dom would be awesome. Like, I think of things that exist.

The number one hated new heel against Cena would be amazing, particularly as we have Survivor Series sitting in San Diego, where the crowd wouldn’t know what to do with heel Mysterio. That wouldn’t be awesome. Dip. Heel Mysterio and Cena at Survivor Series. That’s a thing.
