“A Male Dixie Carter” – Goldberg’s Scathing Take On AEW’s Tony Khan

Goldberg has given his candid thoughts on AEW and Tony Khan, revealing if he was ever close to signing a deal with the promotion.

During a recent interview, Goldberg claimed there was “not a chance” he would work in AEW. The star said that while he had talked to Tony Khan “a number of times,” he believed the product was too cheesy and implied he wouldn’t be able to look himself in the mirror if he joined the company.

AEW boss Tony Khan expressed surprise at the comments and suggested Goldberg had wanted to work in the company for a time and that he’d have been interested in working with the WWE Hall of Famer.

Goldberg Denies Being Close To AEW Deal

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Goldberg has now given his take on that and says he can’t pass judgment on AEW as he doesn’t watch their shows but thinks Tony Khan is a male version of former TNA owner Dixie Carter:

I just think we have a different perspective on it. I don’t know. I mean, it’s hard for me to really pass judgment on their production because I don’t watch it. I see clips of it and it’s hard to give a rational breakdown of how they are if I don’t really watch it, so I don’t really know.

He [Tony Khan] reminds me of Dixie Carter, but a male version. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing. But he reminds me of that scenario. It’s just a different feel, it’s just different.

Goldberg then shot down the idea that he was ever close to making a deal with AEW but did note he reached out to Sting about being part of his retirement from wrestling:

No, I don’t think I was ever close to making a deal with him. I think it was much more a realistic transition when Sting was involved. I reached out to Sting because I wanted to be a part [of it], I thought he and I could do a farewell thing at some point together.

But it wasn’t about me, it was about Sting and I could never overshadow anything that he does. But I don’t want to convolute the waters. It would have been a nice crescendo but it wasn’t about me. So the timing was kind of off.

Goldberg has confirmed he wants one last match to round off his career but it remains to be seen if that will happen and where it would take place.
