Divisive Ex-WWE Star Opens Door For Shock Return

Triple H WWE WrestleMania press conference

A former WWE Superstar could get back in the ring.

Eva Marie joined WWE in 2013 after becoming part of the Total Divas reality TV series. Despite having no prior wrestling training and very little as she began her career, Marie was quickly moved to the main roster.

In 2017, Marie left WWE to pursue non-wrestling projects, but she eventually returned in June 2021, after being back under contract for eight months. Despite a lavish presentation, Marie’s short storyline with Piper Niven, who was known as Doudrop, was met with heavy criticism.

On November 4, 2021, Marie was released by WWE during a round of talent cuts.

Eva Marie Might Not Be Done With WWE

In a wide-ranging new interview with Sonya Deville and Toni Cassano on Unwrapped, Marie explained why she’d never close the door on a WWE return. That’s despite having already left the company twice.

“I always keep the door open just because I’d be silly not to. And I love performing. There’s nothing like it. If you want to talk about drugs and alcohol, that’s the biggest high.”

Expanding on the high of performing, the star said that there’s nothing like it, and that makes it impossible for many to walk away.

“You see it too in superstars. They can’t let it go. Sometimes it’s like, ‘Okay, you should retire,’ but like, you can’t find that high anywhere else because it’s not… The WWE Universe is the best fan base. They’re crazier than ever, but they’re loyal too. So to be able to walk out into a 100,000-like-people arena… where are you going to get that?”

Eva Marie’s former tag team partner, Piper Niven, is currently dealing with a serious neck injury, having not wrestled since August. There were initially reports that the injury could end Niven’s career, but she’s expected to eventually return to the ring.
