Disappointing WWE Backstage Reaction To John Cena’s Retirement Tour
John Cena’s final match will be on December 13th, 2025, at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Speaking of his final match, WWE has yet to decide his final opponent. Some of the names in circulation are Drew McIntyre, The Rock, and Jey Uso, among others.
During the Farewell Tour, The Champ’s story has changed multiple times. One of the biggest milestones in the tour was his heel turn, which The Scottish Warrior claimed to be a wasted opportunity.
John Cena’s Farewell Tour is a failure
The WWE Universe has always been a big fan of The Last Real Champion. Even if he decides not to retire and continue being an active pro-wrestler, the fans will still turn up for his matches. However, Cena has revealed that he will definitely retire in December 2025.
During the retirement tour, Cena joined forces with The Rock and turned heel. However, the heel turn didn’t really amount to anything since The Final Boss did not return to take the story forward. The Champ turned babyface again to continue being the fan-favourite.
As per a report by Fightful Select, WWE is aware that John Cena’s retirement tour has been a failure, or rather, not as good as it was anticipated. One of the primary reasons for this is the unforeseen changes in the creative direction during the farewell tour.

Currently, John Cena is booked against AJ Styles for Crown Jewel 2025. WWE used social media to promote the event since he was not advertised for any live events ahead of the premium live event.
