Deluded Star Takes Credit For MJF Winning AEW Title
One AEW star is taking direct credit for MJF capturing the AEW World Championship.
MJF is always on the hunt to be the AEW World Champion. However, a lot of the time his attention is drawn elsewhere, whether that be by Chris Jericho, Eddie Kingston, CM Punk, or, most recently, Mark Briscoe. Briscoe and MJF will clash in a Tables ‘n’ Tacks match at All Out as both men look to completely destroy the other once and for all.
The Salt of the Earth will no doubt have one eye on the All Out main event when Hangman Adam Page defends his AEW World Title against Kyle Fletcher. Page survived MJF’s challenge at Forbidden Door, but he still has a contract for a title match as a result of winning a Casino Gauntlet bout.
MJF previously won the AEW World Title at Full Gear in 2022, where he defeated Jon Moxley when William Regal betrayed Moxley. His title match came as a result of winning a Casino Ladder match at All Out, but it wasn’t MJF that climbed the ladder and retrieved the winning casino chip.
MJF’s Success All Because Of Stokely
That was Stokely Hathaway. Hathaway’s short-lived group, The Firm, invaded the match, allowing him to capture the chip and hand it over to a masked figure. By the end of that night, the masked “Devil” revealed themselves to be MJF.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Stokely Hathaway was happy to take full credit for MJF capturing the AEW World Title:
I mean, of course. I mean, I’m the one who got that gigantic chip. I mean, I crawled up an 80-foot ladder, grabbed it, and gave it to him. So, you know, if it weren’t for me, I don’t know what he’d be doing. You know what I’m saying? He’d probably be at AutoZone somewhere.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that. I’m just saying, like, that’s what he most likely would be doing if it weren’t for me grabbing, like, the chip. So I appreciate the callback to history.
