Dean Malenko Undergoes Brain Surgery

Dean Malenko recently underwent surgery.

Speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross gave an update on Dean Malenko. The veteran has dealing with Parkinson’s disease for several years, and underwent surgery to try and control the shakes associated with the cruel condition.

“I saw Dean Malenko. Malenko’s had some health issues, and I saw him there, and he had brain surgery, and it stops his shakes from the Parkinson’s… He’s had the surgery. He’s such a sweetheart of a guy.”

Malenko is one of the most respected figures in wrestling after a glittering career that saw him star in ECW, WCW, and later WWE. The star is best remembered for his spell in WCW where he was instrumental in the rise of the cruiserweight division alongside the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and Chris Jericho.

What Does Dean Malenko Do In AEW?

Malenko called time on his in-ring career back in 2001 but remained with WWE for another 18 years working backstage as a road agent. Following his departure, Dean Malenko headed to AEW in May 2019 and continues to work for the promotion as a Senior Producer.

The star was born into a wrestling family, with his father Boris a prominent figure within the industry for a number of years. By the time he retired, Malenko was a four-time Cruiserweight Champion and former United States Tag Team Champion.

While with WWE, Malenko became Light Heavyweight Champion twice.
