Dark Side Of The Ring First Season 4 Topics Revealed
Documentary series Dark Side of the Ring is set to return for a fourth season and the first topics to be covered by the new season have been revealed.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that three of the topics in the fourth season of the show have now been confirmed. Episodes will focus on Bam Bam Bigelow, Abdullah The Butcher, and Mike Awesome. The rest of the topics for the season have not yet been revealed.
It is also noted that Jim Cornette along with WWE Hall of Famers Mick Foley, Terry Funk, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan have all recorded contributions for the series.
Bam Bam Bigelow is best remembered for his run in WWE in the mid-nineties which saw him headline WrestleMania 11 with ex-NFL star Lawrence Taylor. In 2007 Bigelow was found dead at the age of just 45. His death was ruled an accident with drugs such as cocaine and benzodiazepines found in his system.
Abdullah The Butcher made his wrestling debut in 1958 and over the decades became known for his brutal and gruesome hardcore matches. Fans of WCW will remember Abdullah’s partnership and feud with Cactus Jack with Jack accidentally electrocuting The Butcher in the Chamber of Horrors match in 1991. Abdullah The Butcher has proved controversial with Devon Nicholson suing him for millions of dollars after he accused Abdullah of infecting him with Hepatitis C through sharing blades during matches.
Mike Awesome made his name in Japan as part of Atsushi Onita’s ultra-violent FMW promotion. Awesome became known to US audiences through his work in ECW and became a 2-time ECW World Champion. It was while Awesome still held that title that he made his unexpected debut for WCW where he remained until the company closed its doors in 2001.
Awesome then joined WWE, initially as part of The Alliance but left the promotion just a year later. He is best remembered in WWE for his show-stealing match with Masato Tanaka at the first One Night Stand event in June 2005. Sadly in February 2007, Mike Awesome took his own life, just one month after the passing of Bam Bam Bigelow.
Dark Side of the Ring premiered in 2019 and the previous three seasons of the show have delved into topics such as Owen Hart’s tragic death, the Chris Benoit murder/suicide, and the steroid trial that saw Vince McMahon face off with the US Government.
The show sparked controversy with its season three episode focussing on the infamous Plane Ride From Hell. A flight attendant on board the plane that day alleged that Ric Flair had seriously sexually harassed her, claims that Flair has strenuously denied.
