Darby Allin Shares What Sting Told Him After Final AEW Match
Darby Allin wanted to make sure Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution was a special one.
At AEW’s first PPV of 2024 called Revolution, the team of Darby Allin & Sting walked in as AEW Tag Team Champions and walked out as the champions as well.
That match at Revolution saw Allin & Sting hold onto the AEW Tag Team Titles by beating The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) in a chaotic Tornado Tag Team Match. Sting’s two adult sons Steve & Garrett were also heavily involved in the match as payback for the Bucks attacking them leading up to the match.
While the match ended with Sting making Matthew Jackson tap out in the Scorpion Deathlock, perhaps the most memorable moment was Allin’s leap off a ladder inside the ring that led to Allin going through a thick piece of glass that was on the floor. Allin wanted to splash Nick through the glass, but Matt pulled Nick out of the way and it was Allin taking the crazy bump.
Sting ended his AEW career with an incredible 29-0 record and they were all tag team matches. All 29 of those matches were with Darby Allin as his tag team partner.
What Did Sting Say To Darby Allin After The Stinger’s Final AEW Match?
Darby Allin spoke to Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes recently and recalled what Sting said to him earlier in the day as well as their conversation after the match.
“So earlier in the day, Sting is like, man, you’re not your normal self, you seem a little off, because normally I’m like just chilling. Then I look at him and I’m like, dude, how can I be chill? This is your last match! We have to hit it out of the park, you only get one shot at this. So we laid it all on the line that night, that was a pretty wild match.”
“At the end of the night, Sting came up to me, I’m all covered in blood and glass, he comes up to me and he’s just like that was easily one of my top three favourite matches of all time. That’s why we did what we did out there. So, that moment, it was all worth it so he doesn’t go at the end of night being like, Yeah, I had a good career, but that last match was bad. So, there were no regrets that night.”
Sting is officially done as a wrestler, but Darby Allin continues to thrill AEW fans every time he steps into the ring. Darby Allin is set to challenge Jack Perry for the TNT Title at AEW All In on August 25th. It’s not yet known if Sting will be at All In.
The connection between Sting and Darby remains strong because Darby Allin is training Sting’s son Steven to become a pro wrestler. Allin has also revealed that Steven was sleeping in a tent on Allin’s property as well.
