Darby Allin Reveals Crazy Idea That Tony Khan Shot Down In AEW

Darby Allin is known for doing anything to entertain AEW fans, but even Tony Khan says no sometimes.

The former AEW TNT Champion, Darby Allin, has earned a reputation for doing some of the craziest things that wrestling fans have ever seen.

Whether he’s jumping off a ladder and going through a plate of glass or having his head shoved into a pool of water in a drowning attempt, Darby Allin truly has no fear when the bell rings.

At AEW’s last two pay-per-view events, Darby Allin faced former 4-time AEW World Champion Jon Moxley in two wild gimmick matches. At September’s AEW All Out PPV, Darby Allin lost a Coffin Match against Jon Moxley due to Pac interfering to help Moxley win.

They followed that up with an I Quit Match at AEW WrestleDream that saw Darby Allin force Jon Moxley to quit, thanks to the legendary Sting showing up to watch Allin’s back when he needed it most.

While speaking to 3NT Wrestling, Allin was asked if Moxley brings out the best or worst of the popular AEW daredevil.

“Little bit of both. It’s a double-edged sword for sure. I feel it’s like clearly taking years off one’s career having these matches that we have been having. But at the same time, dude, my career is supposed to be, uh, short and sweet. I’m not in it for the long run. I don’t think I’m going to make it to 65 like Sting.”

Darby Allin Was Told “No” By Tony Khan For Wanting To Get Hit By A Car

When he was asked if AEW’s Owner and Head of Creative, Tony Khan, shot down his wild ideas, Darby Allin claimed that Khan had said no in the past.

“Yeah, definitely! There’s been lots of times, especially during the pandemic because the roster was so thin. I would always pitch for the most craziest stuff, and he’s like, ‘We can’t afford to have anybody else miss out on the show.’”

After he was asked for a specific example, Allen recalled the time when Khan said no to Allin’s idea about getting hit by a car.

“Yeah, getting hit by a car. And if anybody knows anything that I do, I don’t like there to be a lot of safety nets. I like to just go out there and go crazy because all these stuntmen that come out that try to, like, you know, there’s a lot of people like, ‘All right, there’s this, this, and this.’ I’m like, ‘Don’t you see what we do in the ring?’

So, yeah, I do a lot better when there’s less safety. I know it sounds crazy, but just the years of insanity, I feel like it’s just, I don’t know, man, I don’t do good when there’s a lot of rules.”

The next AEW Dynamite episode on November 12th will feature a men’s and women’s Blood & Guts match inside two rings and a massive cage. Allin is in the men’s match, which looks like this:

Darby Allin, Roderick Strong, and The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy, and Kyle O’Reilly) vs. Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and Pac). That means it will be another match where Allin could do something crazy. It’s what he loves to do, after all.
