Daniel Bryan Talks Frustration Over WWE’s Hesitance To Clear Him For Competition
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan took part in an interview with The Statesman, where among the many different topics discussed, he briefly touched on his frustrations with WWE’s hesitance to clear him to return to in-ring competition despite the superstar’s insistence that he is ready to perform. Also, numerous doctors (including one that worked with athletes on this year’s Super Bowl) have given Bryan the go-ahead to wrestle again.
My wife is a wrestler, so she is on the ring, and I am just sitting, it is difficult… when I am upset, when I am angry, wrestling was always there as an outlet.. I could go, drop and kick… you can call your mom and you can call your sister… but sometimes you just need a physical outlet… I don’t know how to cope with this situation.
Bryan also feels that because a large part of his popularity comes from his deep, almost ethereal godlike connection with audiences, he is letting his fanbase down by being denied the ability to perform. The situation can’t be easy to accept considering Bryan has been wrestling since the tender age of 18.
What we do know for certain is that Bryan has made up his mind that he will wrestle again somewhere (possibly returning to Ring of Honor or venturing into Lucha Underground) if WWE refuses to ever let him compete again. The art of professional wrestling is too passionately burned into his soul for him to call it quits when he is only in his 30s.
You have to respect Daniel Bryan; the poor guy just wants to do what he loves. Imagine if you couldn’t partake in your favorite physical activity, and the empathy is palpable. Here’s hoping we see Bryan performing again soon; he’s one of the modern greats.
Also discussed in the questionnaire is the incredibly positive impact teaming with Kane had on his career, the monumental ups and depressing downs of his life in 2014, and more.
