Damian Priest Has Specific Goal As Next WWE US Champion

Damian Priest

Damian Priest has a specific goal if he captures the WWE United States Title at Backlash.

As a former Money in the Bank holder who went on to cash that briefcase in to become a World Heavyweight Champion, Damian Priest knows what it takes to win big matches.

While Damian Priest lost his Sin City Street Fight against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 41, Priest has been involved in a storyline involving the United States Title.

That story involving the US Title will see the US Champion Jacob Fatu defend the title against McIntyre, Priest, and former champion LA Knight at Backlash in St. Louis on Saturday, May 10th.

In an interview with News 12, Priest promoted the Backlash match while also discussing SummerSlam, which is on August 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Priest grew up in New York City so that it will be close to his home.

“It’s gonna be setting the table for what’s gonna be the greatest SummerSlam of all time. I mean, it’s already guaranteed to be that.

So, I’m hoping that at Backlash I could win the United States Championship for a second time. Then go on and defend it, hopefully have Money In The Bank, and then defend it again here in front of the hometown.”

Damian Priest Was Given Great Advice From Paul Heyman

After establishing himself as a main event talent in WWE in 2024, Damian Priest recalled when Paul Heyman gave him some valuable advice about how Priest had become the character he was portraying on television.

I felt good, I felt comfortable. I was flowing. I just went in, and it just felt good. For instance, [Paul] Heyman was talking to me after, and he was like, ‘There’s no distinction between the character and the person. That’s you now.’ That felt good. I was appreciative of his words. For me, it felt smooth, man. I think I finally know how to just be me.

The next WWE PLE is Backlash on May 10th in St. Louis. Here’s the lineup so far:

* Undisputed WWE Championship: John Cena vs. Randy Orton

* Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch

* United States Championship: Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Damian Priest vs. LA Knight

* Gunther vs. Pat McAfee

You can watch WWE Backlash, streaming live on Peacock in the U.S. and Netflix internationally from St. Louis at 7 ET/4 PT.
