Damian Priest Screwed As Gunther Wins WWE World Title

Gunther is the new World Heavyweight Champion but Damian Priest lost more than his title after a Cleveland screwjob at WWE SummerSlam.

Gunther earned his World Heavyweight Championship shot by winning the King of the Ring tournament in Saudi Arabia back in May. Questions remained over who The Ring General would face but Damian Priest has survived as champion since winning the gold at WrestleMania 40 and held the title going into the biggest party of the summer.

Damian Priest had cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to win the title after Drew McIntyre was taken out by CM Punk. Priest had Punk to thank again in Glasgow at Clash at the Castle when CM Punk screwed McIntyre out of another win to ensure Priest kept his gold.

Damian Priest Screwed As Gunther Wins Gold

At SummerSlam, The Judgment Day began to fall apart early in the night as Dominik Mysterio betrayed Rhea Ripley as Liv Morgan retained the Women’s World Title. Backstage an irate Damian Priest demanded to know where Mysterio was and asked Finn Balor if he knew about his plan. Balor was offended to be asked but before Priest went to the ring for his bout, the former Unified WWE Tag Team Champions seemed to make up with Balor telling the champion that The Judgment Day comes first and reaffirming that Priest had asked to go it alone against Gunther.

However with Gunther in charge of the match, Balor made his presence felt at ringside. A boot from Gunther to Balor fired up Priest and he dropped Gunther with a South of Heaven chokeslam and was about to win the match when Balor pulled Gunther’s foot on the rope. As Priest tried to get to Balor he was locked in the sleeper hold by Gunther who put the champion to sleep to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

The Judgment Day might come first but it looks like it no longer has Rhea Ripley or Damian Priest in it.
