Damian Priest Reveals Praise He Received From WWE Legends

The WWE United States Champion Damian Priest has some tough competition on Raw these days, and he’s also had some cool interactions with some WWE legends.

Priest became the US Champion at SummerSlam when he defeated Sheamus clean to win the title. It’s the first title that Priest has won the main roster since joining Raw earlier this year at the Royal Rumble. During his NXT career, he was the NXT North American Champion.

At WrestleMania 37 this past April, Priest was in a big match as he teamed up with musician Bad Bunny to defeat The Miz and John Morrison. It was Bad Bunny’s first pro wrestling match and while there were plenty of critics going into it, there was a lot of praise after it was over.

Priest spoke to Vicente Beltrán of ViBe & Wrestling to talk about how several WWE legends were part of SummerSlam like John Cena, Edge and Goldberg. Priest noted that most of them are private people, but he had an emotional encounter with WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg after winning the US Title.

“Actually, most of them are private but not in a negative way. For example, Goldberg, the last time I saw him he came to greet me when I won the championship, and before his match, he gave me a hug and congratulated me, he told me that he was happy for me and all that and we did not know each other. Those things have a lot of value because a legend like Goldberg doesn’t have to say a word to me. What does it mean for him? Nothing and for me, it is a world.”

In addition to Goldberg, WWE Hall of Famer Edge had some nice words to say to Priest too:

Edge also congratulated me and gave me a hug and told me that he was happy for me. They are people that I saw on TV when I was young, and now I have them there, and they give me advice and help me, and it is incredible for me. I don’t know how I got to this place, but I am very happy to be able to share conversations with these legends.”

Another WWE Hall of Famer, Mick Foley, praised Priest heavily following a terrific match on the August 30 Raw when he beat Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a triple threat.

Priest will defend the US Title against Sheamus at WWE Extreme Rules on September 26 on Peacock and WWE Network.
