Confusion Surrounds AEW Stars Ahead Of Rumoured WWE Move
Two AEW stars are inching closer to WWE.
Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo have been All Elite since 2019, but it seems it’s time for a change. The real-life brothers are said to be working on joining WWE as a “package deal,” but they have no interest in working in NXT.
To add fuel to the fire, Fenix has pulled out of an independent date in late September. Importantly, this is after his AEW contract expires.
In fact, it’s been claimed that the Lucha Brothers have already received an offer from WWE after making it clear they want to leave AEW.
A new report has Fightful Select has now attempted to untangle what is becoming an increasingly messy situation.
Sources close to Penta noted he’d be in Orlando this week, but didn’t specify whether or not he was visiting the Performance Center. However, the star does have a booking in Mexico on August 15th.
From the AEW side, sources are said to have expected something like this to happen, but they were “shocked” to see it in print. The company has offered the Lucha Brothers a new deal, and Penta has suggested it’s the same offer they’ve been made by WWE.
To add even more intrigue, Penta is believed to have told those close to him that his AEW contract has already expired. It should be noted that he remains on the company roster page, and several people within the company said “If his deal actually hasn’t expired, the company could tack on injury time to both.”
There have been other claims internally that the pair “didn’t want to do business in the appropriate ways.”
Penta Claims “My Present Is AEW”
For his part, Penta has dismissed claims he’s already left AEW, but he did little to calm speculation a move to WWE could be on the cards.
In a post on social media after a day of speculation the star wrote “No more gossip! my present is AEW!” As many fans were quick to point out, the statement left the door wide open for a move to the sports entertainment giant in the near future.
The report from Fightful cited sources that said Penta’s denials had more to do with helping Fenix leave AEW without “contractual hurdles” than stopping the speculation.
