Confusion Over AJ Styles Injury After WWE Match Stopped

AJ Styles WWE

After AJ Styles had his match abandoned on WWE SmackDown due to injury there seems to be some confusion about the star’s actual condition.

AJ Styles made his long-awaited return to SmackDown in Nashville but his hero’s welcome was soon cut short when Carmelo Hayes interrupted. Styles was ready to fight there and then challenging Hayes to a match on the show but the former NXT Champion declined.

That led to US Champion LA Knight making an appearance with an interesting proposition. Knight issued a challenge for Hayes to take on Styles and if Hayes won then he’d get a shot at Knight’s title and Hayes quickly accepted.

However, the match was brought to a premature end as AJ Styles seemed to suffer an injury to his ankle. The WWE commentary team noted the ringside doctor had mentioned Styles might have suffered a sprain and referee Charles Robinson called the match off. It was later noted in the show that Styles was being evaluated for his apparent injury at a hospital.

Is AJ Styles’ Injury Real?

Since SmackDown, reports have emerged giving very different takes on Style’s current condition. Fightful Select noted that AJ Styles’ “injury angle was planned and he’s fine” suggesting that it is all part of the show.

However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted in his Daily Update that Styles is legitimately injured:

The A.J. Styles injury on Friday was legit and not storyline. He’s getting an MRI done to see the severity of it.

While Styles’ condition is causing uncertainty, one WWE star has confirmed they suffered a serious injury during a recent wild match.
