Concussed AEW Star Cleared To Return
An AEW wrestler who holds a championship in the company can get back in the ring after suffering an injury.
It’s been an interesting 2024 for former TNT Champion Sammy Guevara regarding his in-ring career. While Sammy was once a main event talent in the company, he hasn’t been at that level this year and has also had periods of inactivity.
While Guevara wrestled a very busy schedule since AEW launched in 2019, this year he’s had less than 20 matches.
Part of the reason for the fewer matches is that in February, a match between Guevara and the legendary Jeff Hardy led to Guevara’s suspension from the company due to Guevara not paying attention when Hardy was injured. Guevara only returned to action as part of Ring of Honor in July. Guevara would go on to be an ROH Tag Team Champion with Dustin Rhodes and they continue to hold those titles.
At the October 2nd ROH tapings in Pittsburgh in a match against Serpentico, a mistimed Cutter resulted in Serpentico landing on Guevara’s face. The match was stopped and Sammy was stretchered from ringside to the back. Guevara was diagnosed with a concussion.
Sammy Guevara Has Been Cleared To Return To AEW Ring
The good news for Sammy Guevara is that the concussion he suffered doesn’t appear to be a long-term issue because it has been reported that he will be able to return to the ring.
In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote: “Sammy Guevara has been cleared.”
Sammy Guevara also posted on X on September 16th: “Good news. LFG!”
An interesting stat about Sammy Guevara this year is that he’s only had two matches on Dynamite in all of 2024 with the last match coming on September 11th when he lost to Ricochet, who is a newcomer in AEW.
In addition to being a current ROH Tag Team Champion with Dustin Rhodes, Sammy Guevara is also a former three-time TNT Champion during his five-plus year run in All Elite Wrestling.
