A comedian could have been part of the WWE creative team, but he had a good reason not to take the job.

Tony Hinchcliffe is a successful comedian who has had numerous live specials, regularly tours around the world, and hosts the popular Kill Tony podcast.

Hinchcliffe has also been shown ringside at many WWE events, and even hosted an untelevised roast during WrestleMania 41 weekend. Hinchcliffe was also a guest announcer on the April 7th edition of WWE Monday Night Raw to promote his WrestleMania 41 event in Las Vegas.

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that also included WWE legend John Cena, Hinchcliffe spoke about having a friend with WWE ties, which led to an interview for the comedian.

“Yeah it was only a couple years into me doing standup like seven nights a week at the comedy store all the time. Someone’s like ‘Hey, I have a friend in WWE if you want to have a meeting with them and just talk.

I went in with straight up ideas, this that, The Undertaker’s brother comes back again, this, that, the next, everything back and forth. I can’t even remember any of them it’s been so long. But I went in with a whole thing, this guy’s like ‘Where the hell did you? This is crazy, you just did this?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I found out a couple days ago we were going to talk.’”

Tony Hinchcliffe Turned Down WWE Because Of Where The Job Was

WWE fans know that the company’s home location is Stamford, Connecticut. It’s not too far from New York City, but it’s also a decent trip to get to NYC. For Hinchcliffe, the location of the potential job was what kept him from accepting it.

“They (WWE) offered it, but I would have had to move to Connecticut and take a train to New York every night to go do standup, and that would have just been exhausting.

If it was anywhere else other than Connecticut, it kind of would have made sense, if it was in New York City it would have been a no brainer. If it was in LA, definitely.”

Hinchcliffe didn’t mention what year this was.
