Cody Rhodes’s Advice To Jade Cargill About Being WWE Champion Revealed

Cody Rhodes

Jade Cargill has revealed the warning she was given by Cody Rhodes on what was needed to become a WWE Champion.

Jade Cargill finally captured the WWE Women’s Championship at the fourth time of asking when she defeated Tiffany Stratton for the gold at Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st.

Cargill had previously held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Bianca Belair and had been the inaugural TBS Champion in AEW. But she still sought out plenty of advice as to what it means to be a champion in WWE.

Speaking on Booker T’s Hall of Fame podcast, Jade Cargill discussed her role as WWE Women’s Champion, and if she feels more pressure now that she’s got that gold:

I actually was talking to The Miz. It was Miz, and he asked the same question, ‘Do you feel the pressure of being a champion?’ And I said, ‘I’ve sat back for the entire first year I was here, and I watched the champions. And I watched how you all dealt with the pressure, and how you all dealt with your home life situation.’ I asked a lot of questions.

One thing I did tell my husband prior to this run I’m having right now was, ‘Hey, it’s gonna be a wild ride, and I need you to hang on tight. I’m gonna be sleepy. I’m gonna be tired. I’m gonna be all these things. I’m gonna have all these feelings. And I need you to understand what I’m doing right now and the purpose behind it all.’

I wouldn’t say the weight is as heavy as you would think because I’ve had such a great supporting cast behind the scenes at WWE. A lot of champions have groomed me to be in this position that I’m in right now. Me sitting back and watching them, and trying to emulate what they were doing, has prepared me right now to hold this gold.

Jade Cargill Reached Out To Cody Rhodes

Cargill revealed she sought out advice from WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, who also has to manage his time between his WWE commitments and having a young family at home:

I was bugging Cody Rhodes all day. I would always ask Cody, ‘Are you tired? How are you doing this?’ And he just had a newborn baby. I’m like, ‘When are you home?’ Because I have a child. I have an entire family, and I wanted to ask someone who has a family, ‘How are you doing this? How is your wife – even though she’s in the industry or was in the industry – how are you dealing with this? How is your mental? Not just your physical, how is your mental? Are you okay?’

And he just always gave me great advice of pushing through and this is something that he’s always wanted, he’s not gonna take it for granted. I resonate with that. This is what I wanted. I can’t be mad at the hard work that is thrown at me and put on my shoulders when I wanted this. I cannot. If I don’t like it, somebody else will be glad to take that pressure off of me.
