Cody Rhodes WWE WrestleMania Match In Serious Doubt

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has the chance to finish his story at WrestleMania but a real spanner was put in the works on WWE Raw.

In January 2023, Cody Rhodes returned from a serious injury to win the men’s Royal Rumble. Many people predicted wrestling’s crown prince would finally sit on his own throne at WrestleMania 39 by defeating Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship but little did he know, we were only in the third inning of that story and Reigns retained.

Fast forward one whole year and Rhodes is on top of the world again as he became the first man since Stone Cold Steve Austin to win back-to-back Rumbles to get another chance to finish the story.

During his celebrations at the Rumble, Rhodes wasted no time in letting everyone know which champion he wanted at WrestleMania 40 as he pointed to an irate Roman Reigns watching in a skybox. However, what happened to the man Rhodes eliminated last to claim the win might have caused plans to change.

CM Punk Injury Puts Cody Rhodes WrestleMania Plans In Doubt

CM Punk is out of WrestleMania after he suffered a torn triceps in the Royal Rumble. Punk was widely expected to go after Seth Rollins World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania and the injury might just leave Rollins at a loose end.

On Raw in Tampa, Cody Rhodes came to the ring to make his WrestleMania challenge official but Seth Rollins stopped him in his tracks. Rollins told Rhodes he thought The American Nightmare should challenge him at WrestleMania as he is now the number one champion in WWE.

Rollins spoke about headlining show after show while Reigns sat at home and tugged at the heartstrings as he called his belt the Dusty Rhodes title, saying it was held by the true workhorse of the company. Rhodes told Rollins he’d think about it and left.

While it remains likely that Rhodes will clash with Reigns at WrestleMania, the injury to Punk may have caused WWE to try and make things less certain for the time being as they pivot away from the original plans.
