Cody Rhodes Admits WWE WrestleMania 40 Documentary Was Tough To Watch

Cody Rhodes WWE Promo Championship

The WWE WrestleMania 40 documentary was an emotional experience for Cody Rhodes, who admitted they caught him at his lowest point.

WrestleMania 40 Sunday ended up being a career highlight for Cody Rhodes, who defeated Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Champion for the first time.

While the result of Cody becoming champion was great, it wasn’t always the plan. As most WWE fans know, the company pivoted because they wanted to go with The Rock challenging Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. However, the fans rejected that idea in such a way that the plan was changed to Cody beating Roman while The Rock became a heel character known as “The Final Boss.”

Many of the details of the creative process were reported as it happened and it was also covered in the WWE WrestleMania 40: Behind The Curtain documentary, which aired in July.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Cody Rhodes was asked for his thoughts on the documentary and admitted it was tough to watch because of the emotions involved.

“They got me at my lowest point. A lot of the capture was potentially a second part for my documentary. So much of that capture ended up going towards behind the scenes. I thought Ben Houser did a great job handling the four guys.”

“To me, it’s really a documentary more about Triple H and The Rock, and seeing that relationship come together. I watched enough of it to feel like, ‘I don’t want to relive this moment.’ I don’t want to relive that moment in Birmingham, walking back, where I didn’t even walk through Gorilla, I went around it, to go to my bus, just because I didn’t want to pretend. This is not okay.”

“I’m also a wrestler and a professional, and we shook hands, so look each other in the eye and move on. They caught me at the lowest point and it was a little tough to watch. A little too close for me. I thought Ben Houser did a great job with it.”

Cody Rhodes Has The Rock On His Mind Going Into WWE SummerSlam Showdown

The Undisputed WWE Championship is on the line this Saturday, August 3rd at SummerSlam when Cody Rhodes defends the title against Solo Sikoa of The Bloodline. While Cody is focused on facing Solo, Cody made it clear he has The Rock is still on his mind.

“This weekend, SummerSlam is one of WWE’s big four PLE pay-per-view events. This, hopefully, in an entertaining way, is a bit of a repeat of what we got at WrestleMania, which was the biggest show in wrestling history. I defeated The Tribal Chief, the True Tribal Chief, that being Roman Reigns. I look to defeat the pretender, Solo Sokoa, at SummerSlam.”

“If you’re also someone in The Bloodline, perhaps named The Rock, we’ll be watching because if you claim The Tribal Chief mantle next, same thing will happen to you.”
