Cody Rhodes Stretchered Out Of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
Cody Rhodes was attacked after Saturday Night’s Main Event went off the air.
Although Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens once fought The Bloodline side by side, those days now feel like a lifetime ago.
In the minutes after Bad Blood, Owens attacked Rhodes in the parking lot and the rivalry has only increased in intensity since. This set up a match between the pair at the rebooted Saturday Night’s Main Event.
When Rhodes and Owens met at Bash In Berlin, KO fought back against his killer instinct, and this eventually cost him the match, so he was determined to make sure that didn’t happen twice.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Owens was much more ruthless, but in the end, he was undone by Rhodes and a steel chair.
The match reached its controversial conclusion when Kevin Owens pushed Rhodes into the referee knocking them down. KO then hit a Stunner, which led to a second referee running in, but the champion kicked out. Rhodes began to fight back but accidentally hit the second referee, leaving them also on the canvas.
Owens grabbed a chair and returned to the ring but Rhodes dodged a wild swing before connecting with a Cody Cutter. Rhodes then hit a Cross Rhodes on the chair before throwing it from the ring and pinning Owens to retain the title.
Rhodes had made his entrance at the show with the legendary Winged Eagle World Championship belt, but it was Owens who walked out with it.
Things Unravel For Cody Rhodes
After the show went off the air, Owens attacked Rhodes from behind and quickly hit him with a Package Piledriver. As Owens basked in his assault, Rhodes was strapped to a stretcher.
With Rhodes out of action, Triple H stormed from backstage to confront Kevin Owens as he made his way back up the aisle. The pair got into a heated shoving match and exchanged angry words before going their separate ways.
Elsewhere on the show, Chelsea Green became the first-ever Women’s United States Champion after beating Michin. The victory marks the first time Green has held singles championship gold in WWE.
