It’s been a tough week for Cody Rhodes, but the American Nightmare has issued a statement about how the goal remains the same – he wants to be WWE Champion.

One week ago today was the start of WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Many people went into WrestleMania weekend thinking that after four hours of content on Saturday and four more hours of content on Sunday, Cody Rhodes would be celebrating as the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

In that main event on Sunday, Roman Reigns beat Cody Rhodes even though Cody “had him” as he put it on Raw. Cody delivered his Cross Rhodes finisher to Reigns two times in a row and he wanted to do it a third time when the dastardly “Wise Man” Paul Heyman distracted the referee. That led to Solo Sikoa making his way back to the ringside area (he was kicked out earlier in the match) so that he could hit Cody with a Samoan Spike. Reigns recovered to hit a Spear for the pinfall win.

The next night on Raw, Cody Rhodes wanted a rematch with Reigns, but the Tribal Chief and Heyman shot that down quickly. That led to Brock Lesnar surprising choosing to team with Cody against Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa.

Right before that tag team main event was going to start, Lesnar attacked Cody with a vicious heel turn that saw Lesnar hit multiple F5s while using a steel chair and the steel steps as part of the assault. Raw ended with Cody down on the mat while an angry Lesnar stood tall.

Even though Cody Rhodes didn’t have a good two days on WWE TV storyline-wise, he is clearly positioned as one of the biggest babyfaces in the company and has a very bright future.

On Instagram, Cody Rhodes shared this message while thanking a lot of people including Triple H, The McMahon Family, WWE President Nick Khan, John Cena, and many others whose names you might recognize.

A long week. I know last Sunday was not the result I’d hoped for, and I know many fans were disappointed as well. I make no excuses. I lost. I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you how much I enjoyed the ride…until Sunday night, and furthermore Monday night.

I would like to thank @thebrandirhodes @wwe , the city of Los Angeles, Matt Rolf, @bradkolowichjr , @sgovintage , @jtcervero , HHH, The McMahon Family, Bruce, Conrad, Kevin Dunn, Ryan W Ryan C Mustache Chad Brian James Ed K, John Cone, John Cena, and @makeawishamerica for allowing me the honor to induct 15 wishes into the Circle Of Champions, and many more names I may be forgetting…in addition Nick Khan for taking care of my family through the festivities.

Lastly, the almost 200k fans who attended the weekend overall…unwavering and motivating. I want to be your champion. This Monday I hope to speak about my future with WWE and what may be next for me. @usanetwork
