Cody Rhodes Reveals If Recent WWE Documentary Went Too Far

The Rock Cody Rhodes WWE

Cody Rhodes has his opinion on whether a recent WWE documentary gave too much away about the inner workings of the company.

The road to WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia featured a lot of twists and turns along the way. The term “pivot” was mentioned by WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levequestion in the WrestleMania 40 Behind The Scenes documentary that was released on WWE’s YouTube channel earlier this month.

It was a highly anticipated documentary about the decision-making process involved with WrestleMania 40. Plus, WWE announced it would air in April and instead, it aired three months later in July, which was frustrating for some fans.

In the documentary, Triple H revealed that on the day of the Royal Rumble, he told Cody Rhodes that while he would win the Rumble, he was not going to “finish the story” at WrestleMania 40 by beating Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. That’s because The Rock was coming back and he would face Reigns. Cody Rhodes would go on to talk about how devastating it was to learn that.

Following the Royal Rumble, Cody did a promo on Smackdown saying he would step aside for The Rock. This was met with anger by WWE fans online and at shows. This led to The Rock claiming that it was his idea to instead turn heel as “The Final Boss” and then have Cody go on to face Reigns at WrestleMania 40 Sunday.

What ended up happening was on WrestleMania 40 Saturday, The Rock & Roman Reigns beat Cody Rhodes & Seth “Freakin” Rollins in a huge tag team match. That led to the WrestleMania 40 Sunday night that ended with Cody Rhodes finally becoming WWE Champion by beating Roman Reigns, thanks to several big names watching Cody’s back.

Cody Rhodes spoke to Chris Van Vliet on Insight about the WrestleMania 40 documentary and if it went too far about taking fans behind the scenes.

“With the behind-the-scenes documentary, that’s really as far as I think you should ever go. Not because I don’t want people to know, but the legend is supposed to be cooler than the fact. So watching the documentary the other night, I feel like people have all these questions and there’s kind of these different outlooks and takes and I like that more than someone definitively saying no, here’s actually what happened.”

“Plus, I like that Rock, Roman, me, Seth and Triple H all look like we were involved with a bank heist, but have different stories when we got caught by the cops. Like everybody in the interrogation [says] it was him, it was him, it was me… I do like that.”
