Cody Rhodes One Step Away From WWE Character Shift?
Cody Rhodes’ mannerisms of late have been questionable.
Since making his return to WWE in April 2022, Rhodes has been portrayed as a babyface.
One of his long-standing rivalries has been the one with Drew McIntyre, whom he referred to as the company’s resident cockroach.
Over the last few weeks, both superstars have traded jibes and even thrown hands at each other outside the ring.
More recently, The American Nightmare did something out of character, turning up unannounced at The Scottish Warrior’s house during the latter’s personal meeting with SmackDown GM, Nick Aldis.
An irate McIntyre approached Rhodes, after which a brawl broke out between the two, forcing security personnel to step in and separate them.
Cody Rhodes Hints At Character Shift On WWE SmackDown
A heel turn for Cody Rhodes has been teased multiple times in the past, but the arc has never come to fruition.
The 40-year-old is currently one of the company’s top wrestlers as far as drawing crowds and selling merchandise goes. So, it is understandable why WWE does not want to turn him into the bad guy.
However, he took one step towards a character shift on the December 19 episode of the blue brand.
Rhodes cut a promo addressing his lengthy rivalry with Drew McIntyre. However, he was interrupted by Nick Aldis, who condemned Cody’s actions, turning up at McIntyre’s house.
Rhodes, though, was not compliant this time around. Aldis brought up the subject of Cody being prevented from laying a finger on McIntyre until their next official match.
Cody replied, “Or what?” He then cut a rage-infested promo, declaring himself the law, even saying that Aldis worked for him.
Aldis was none too happy about seeing this side of the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Whether or not WWE turns Cody Rhodes heel remains to be seen.
