Cody Rhodes Names Eyebrow-Raising Wrestling Red Flag

Cody Rhodes holding Undisputed WWE Championship

Cody Rhodes has named his biggest wrestling red flag.

Although he’s currently standing tall at the top of the WWE tree with the Undisputed WWE Championship, things weren’t always so rosy for Cody Rhodes.

During his first run with the company, Rhodes struggled to advance above the mid-card and it was only after reinventing himself on the independent scene and later with AEW that he hit top gear. Away from his own career, Rhodes helps train the next generation at his Nightmare Factory facility and is quick to pass on advice.

In a recent episode of Behind The Turnbuckle with Jonathan Coachman, Rhodes made a surprise appearance to chat with Diamond Dallas Page. During the conversation, he explained his biggest red flag in wrestling.

“The number one red flag I hear. If you meet a guy who is a legend who is coming in on the roster and he’s going to be active, or a part-time guy, the number one red flag if you’re young or in the middle of the pack (as a) talent is when you hear somebody say, ‘I’m just here for the young guys.’

I already know. You’re not just here for the young guys. I would rather you tell me straight up, ‘I’m here for some of ya’ll, and I’m here for myself.’ This a selfish, competitive business. I like the most transparent people. ‘Here’s what I’d like to do, let’s do it.’

Whenever I hear, ‘I’m here for the young guys,’ which is not often and not anytime soon I’ve heard it. In my mind, instantly, I’m like, ‘That’s the biggest red flag ever. I’d rather him tell them he’s just here for himself,'”

Cody Rhodes Suffering After Jacob Fatu Attack

On the June 21st episode of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes was left a broken man after being driven through the announce table by the debuting Jacob Fatu. Rhodes had been due to take on Solo Sikoa in the main event, but the match was over before it began thanks to interference from The Bloodline.

With the American Nightmare badly outnumbered, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens ran in to make the save, but The Bloodline had another surprise waiting. Fatu appeared from nowhere and laid waste to Owens and Orton before demolishing Rhodes.

At a live event 24 hours later Cody Rhodes announced to the crowd he’s suffered broken ribs in the attack. It should be noted the injury is for storyline purposes and Rhodes won’t be missing any time.
