Why Cody Rhodes May Turn To The “Dark Side” At WWE SNME

A WWE Hall of Famer thinks that Drew McIntyre could push Cody Rhodes to turn to the dark side in their WWE Title match.

The Saturday Night’s Main Event WWE Title match on November 1st between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre is for WWE’s biggest prize, but there is also more to it than that.

During the Cody-Drew contract signing on WWE SmackDown in Salt Lake City, Drew complained that it wasn’t fair that Cody would keep the title if Drew got counted out or disqualified. That led Cody to say that if he got disqualified or counted out, Drew would win the WWE Title. McIntyre agreed with it, and SmackDown GM Nick Aldis made the stipulation official.

Toward the end of the promo exchange, Drew said that one day the fans will turn on Cody just like so many turned on Drew. It was a reference to how, from 2020 until around 2023, Drew was arguably the top babyface in WWE, beloved by fans just like Cody is now.

Many people also want to see Cody Rhodes turn heel in WWE after being a top babyface for the past three years. That has led some people to predict that perhaps this rivalry with Drew McIntyre could be the reason why Cody finally does change his ways.

While speaking on Busted Open Radio after SmackDown, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry addressed the segment.

“I really do feel like Cody is doing exactly what Drew said tonight: ‘You’re too giving. You’re trying your best to be the good guy but I know there’s a bad guy in you.'”

Drew McIntyre Could Bring The “Dark Side” Out Of Cody Rhodes

Mark Henry then referenced Star Wars movies and how they could relate to the beloved hero, Cody.

“He’s like the Sith Lord in Star Wars. He wants the dark side to come out of Cody. And he wants to be the one to bring the dark side out. And I think it’s gonna happen. I really do feel like Drew McIntyre is gonna take this, he’s gonna leave Cody in a place where Cody is gonna have no choice to lose his class…lose his ability to be the good guy. And he’s gonna lean into the darkness for a while.”

“I mean you just watch my smoke, I think this is it. Tomorrow night will be the night that Dave LaGreca has dreaded since Cody came back to WWE.”

Henry’s reference to Dave LaGreca is a comment on LaGreca, the main host of Busted Open Radio, being a huge fan of babyface Cody Rhodes.

SmackDown ended with McIntyre and Rhodes getting physical, but it didn’t go well for Rhodes, who was put through a table. McIntyre posed with the WWE Title to end the show.

There are four matches officially announced for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st.

  • For The Vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk vs. Jey Uso

  • WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill
