Cody Rhodes Claims Triple H Gave WWE Star A “Death Sentence”
Cody Rhodes has admitted that one current gimmick handed out by WWE boss Triple H could have been a death sentence.
If anybody knows something about wrestling characters that can destroy careers, it’s Cody Rhodes. Rhodes walked away from WWE in 2016 after the company wouldn’t let him return to being himself and insisted he continued on as the face-painted Stardust.
While Rhodes couldn’t make chicken salad out of that, he reinvented himself as the American Nightmare and is now the reigning WWE Champion.
Cody Rhodes Impressed By El Grande Americano
Speaking on All The Smoke: Unplugged, Cody Rhodes pointed at one current WWE character that could have killed a career if left in the wrong hands, but says the company doesn’t mean for things to be a career killer:
That’s always a big thing in wrestling. Take something that’s always a little silly, and then you blow it up. El Grande Americano’s a guy we got right now, who is doing this exact thing. He’s taken something that could have been a death sentence for another wrestler and is just making it special, and they don’t mean it to be a death sentence but they mean it to be a challenge.
El Grande Americano was originally portrayed by Chad Gable in WWE, and he picked up a win over Rey Fenix at WrestleMania 41. An injury to Gable did not put the masked luchador on the shelf; however, instead, he grew several inches as Ludwig Kaiser took over the mask.
Kaiser has found success, both in WWE and AAA, as El Grande Americano and has recently found two masked allies in Rayo and Bravo Americano. However, fans will recognise those masked individuals as two other well-known WWE stars.
