Cody Rhodes Heading To NXT To Conquer AEW In The Ratings
Cody Rhodes seems to be heading to NXT and the WWE Champion’s appearance could all be part of the plan to beat his old company in the ratings.
Cody Rhodes took to social media during NXT Battleground to tease an appearance on the brand as he referenced Ethan Page’s NXT Title match with Trick Williams on the show.
Watching @WWENXTBattleground curious how my old friend @OfficialEGOwill do against @_trickwilliams (Actually thinking of “dashing” down to FL this week with a gift and see some old friends) @VicJosephWWE @ShawnMichaels
Cody Rhodes Is WWE’s Secret Weapon Against AEW
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noted that Cody Rhodes is heading to NXT to help the brand defeat AEW Dynamite in the ratings with Dave Meltzer noting that it’s possible WWE’s brand could even get the upper hand in the crucial 18-49 demographic:
They might do it in total viewers, 18-49 there’s still a gap but Cody’s a big draw. Last week was 0.28 to 0.22, that’s still a gap but they’re not going against the NBA, AEW’s going against the NBA, they’re bringing in Cody Rhodes, it could be close, it’s even possible that NXT could do a better 18-49 number, it wouldn’t shock me in the least.
Famously, Cody Rhodes was one of the original founding members of AEW becoming an EVP in the company with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Cody Rhodes left AEW over a personal issue in early 2022 and since returning to WWE he has headlined WrestleMania twice and won back-to-back men’s Royal Rumbles on his way to finally capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40.
