Cody Rhodes’ Rivalry With Massive WWE Star Allegedly Over
Cody Rhodes recently came out of an incredible rivalry with John Cena.
The rivalry began in early 2025 when Big Match John shockingly turned heel, attacking Rhodes after The American Nightmare refused to align with The Rock at Elimination Chamber. Their animosity peaked at WrestleMania 41, where Cena, aided by outside interference (Travis Scott), controversially defeated Rhodes to capture his historic 17th World Title, leaving Rhodes devastated.
Following WrestleMania, tensions only intensified through personal confrontations and high-profile tag matches. Rhodes, determined to redeem his legacy, won the 2025 King of the Ring tournament and secured a rematch with Cena at SummerSlam. In a brutal Street Fight, Rhodes overcame Cena, reclaiming the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Bryan Dipestein, G. Hyde, and Peter Rosenberg discussed Cody Rhodes’ rivalry with John Cena on the Rosenberg Wrestling podcast. Diperstein proposed a storyline saying that Rhodes and Cena could again come face to face if Cena’s babyface turn turns out to be a work. Responding to the narrative, Rosenberg stated he believes Rhodes and Cena’s rivalry is officially over in WWE.
Peter Rosenberg said, “I just think him and Cody’s done. That was the to me I think we saw the end of him and Cody. That was it. The story’s been told.” (From 30:16)
Cody Rhodes’ Crown Jewel Championship Is In Limbo.
Cody Rhodes currently stands as the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion. As for the WWE Crown Jewel Championship, Rhodes made history at Crown Jewel 2024, defeating Gunther in Riyadh to become the inaugural men’s Crown Jewel champion.
The championship was initially expected to be defended at future Crown Jewel events. However, in a surprising development for 2025, WWE has scrapped plans to feature the men’s Crown Jewel title (and its women’s counterpart, first held by Liv Morgan) at the upcoming Crown Jewel Premium Live Event. This year, Crown Jewel moves out of Saudi Arabia for the first time and heads to Perth, Australia.
Neither the men’s nor the women’s Crown Jewel Championship is scheduled to be defended, and the titles have been quietly erased from ongoing storylines. WWE has not officially decommissioned the belts; it has only pulled them from relevant programming, leaving their futures in doubt.
