Cody Rhodes Names Rival Wrestler As WWE MVP 2023

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has named his choice for WWE’s MVP in the year 2023 and he’s not picking himself.

It has been a career year for Cody Rhodes in 2023 since the son of the American Dream won the Royal Rumble and headlined WrestleMania 39 Sunday against Roman Reigns.

While Cody did not leave WrestleMania as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, he did go on to have a lengthy feud with Brock Lesnar that saw them have three major matches. When Cody defeated Lesnar at SummerSlam (Brock’s last match of the year), Lesnar shook his hand, hugged him and raised his hand as if to say that Cody was the better man. It was a rare thing for Lesnar to do, so it meant a lot that he did it.

In the final few months of 2023, Cody Rhodes has been busy working with his fellow Raw babyfaces against The Judgment Day, which saw that good guys pick up a big win in the WarGames match at Survivor Series. Cody is feuding with Shinsuke Nakamura now while the American Nightmare has made it clear he intends to win the Royal Rumble again.

Seth Rollins Is WWE’s MVP Of 2023 According To Cody Rhodes

During Cody’s WWE return year of 2022, he had a memorable rivalry with Seth Rollins before tearing his pectoral muscle and missing the second half of the year. Cody and Rollins have admitted publicly that they aren’t necessarily friends, but there is a lot of respect between them.

Seth Rollins has been the WWE World Heavyweight Champion on the Raw brand since May and has taken on some of the biggest names that the brand has to offer.

In an interview with The Michael Kay Show, Cody Rhodes reacted to Shawn Michaels and Booker T naming Dominik Mysterio as a potential WWE MVP (Most Valuable Player or Performer) this year. Cody decided to put over Rollins as his choice.

“Dom is a prickly individual, but if I was looking at it from tickets sold, merch sold, excitement over matches, genuine body of work, I’d say your MVP is, I’m not gonna say myself, but I’d say Seth Rollins, the World Heavyweight Champion, is probably somebody who’s more of an MVP.”

“Who am I to go against what Shawn Michaels said though? If Shawn Michaels sees something in Dominik Mysterio, that’s huge because he’s not one that often will make that claim. Dom, as difficult as he is to get along with, he is incredibly linked to the audience.”

“He walks out now, he puts the mics to his lips, and you can’t hear a word he’s saying because they boo him out of the building. I have a sense that Dom will be getting that same reaction two or three years from now, but they won’t be boos, they’ll be cheers. There is something incredibly special about the young man.”

Cody Rhodes was in the main event of the December 11th episode of WWE Raw against Shinsuke Nakamura. It ended in disqualification due to Nakamura spraying the dreaded red mist in Cody’s eyes. It should lead to another match between them.
