Cody Rhodes Retains Undisputed WWE Title At SNME, Teases Heel Turn
Cody Rhodes retains the Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The American Nightmare successfully defended his title against The Scottish Warrior at Wrestlepalooza last September. A few weeks ago on SmackDown, the latter had another opportunity to earn a shot at the championship in a number-one contender’s match against Jacob Fatu. However, the bout was canceled after The Samoan Werewolf was mysteriously attacked backstage.
After accusing McIntyre of being behind Fatu’s attack, Rhodes put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against the former World Heavyweight Champion that same night on SmackDown. The match ended in disqualification after The American Nightmare hit his opponent with the title belt. It was later announced that the two would clash again at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Last night on SmackDown, McIntyre demanded that Rhodes lose the title if he was counted out or disqualified, which the latter accepted.
Cody Rhodes Uses The Championship Belt To Beat Drew McIntyre
The Undisputed WWE Championship kicked off Saturday Night’s Main Event. Drew McIntyre dominated most of the match. He also tried to get Cody Rhodes counted out or disqualified on multiple occasions by bringing the title belt into the ring. However, the latter remained in the fight.
When the referee was accidentally knocked down, McIntyre brought the title belt back into the ring, attempting to hit his opponent with it. Nevertheless, the champion ducked. The two then collided in the ring as they tried to take each other down. After racing to the title belt lying on the mat, Cody Rhodes delivered a DDT to The Scottish Warrior on the belt behind the referee’s back, a seemingly heelish act.
After the referee returned, The American Nightmare delivered a Cross Rhodes to his 40-year-old opponent for the victory to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
