Cody Rhodes Refused To Lose WWE Title To 3-Time Champion
A former WWE star has made a surprising claim about Cody Rhodes.
The American Nightmare debuted in the Stamford-based company in 2007. His first run lasted nearly nine years before leaving the promotion in 2016.
During his first stint, Rhodes shared the ring with many superstars, including Justin Gabriel (aka P. J. Black). The South African star had a five-year run on the main roster himself, between 2010 and 2015.
In a recent interview with Wrestling Then And Now, the three-time WWE Tag Team Champion recalled his battles against Rhodes. He unexpectedly revealed that the current Undisputed WWE Champion hated wrestling him and thought they had no chemistry.
The only person that thinks we can never have good matches was Cody. Like, he used to hate wrestling me because I chop really hard, and I love doing it, and he doesn’t like stuff like that. So, like, he was like, ‘We don’t have good chemistry.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’
Cody Rhodes Was Planned To Drop The WWE Intercontinental Title To Justin Gabriel
During the same interview, Justin Gabriel disclosed that he was supposed to win the Intercontinental Championship from Cody Rhodes during a program with The American Nightmare and Hornswoggle.
The former WWE Superstar, however, revealed that Rhodes refused to drop the title to him and informed higher-ups that he could not work with him.
Like, when he was IC Champ, too. I did that little thing with him and Hornswoggle. I was supposed to take the belt off him and was like, he told the [inaudible], he was like, ‘No, no, I cannot work with that guy. I just cannot work with that guy.’ I always just laughed at him, you know. I was like, ‘What are you talking about? Like, we’ve had amazing matches. Just because you don’t enjoy it, like, maybe.’ [0:28 onwards]
