How Cody Rhodes Really Feels About Dustin’s New Wrestling Family
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has revealed how he really feels about his brother Dustin Rhodes finding success with one of wrestling’s other royal families.
Cody and Dustin Rhodes are intrinsic to the story of AEW as they stole the show on the company’s first-ever event at Double Or Nothing 2019. Cody defeated his older brother on that occasion in an emotional and blood-filled match that put AEW on the wrestling map.
Since then Cody Rhodes has finished his story in WWE by becoming the first Rhodes to win the WWE Championship while Dustin Rhodes is far from done with his own story as he continues his career under Tony Khan’s umbrella in AEW and Ring of Honor.
Cody Rhodes Touched By Brother’s Success
Dustin Rhodes recently won his first title since holding the WWE Tag Team Championship with a man called Stardust in 2014 as he looked to another dynasty in wrestling. Rhodes teamed with Ross and Marshall Von Erich, the sons of the legendary Kevin Von Erich to win the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championship.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes gave his thoughts on that success and revealed his own love and admiration for Kevin Von Erich:
Dustin doing the spot with the Von Erichs was so cool. have such a love for the Von Erichs. I don’t think Kevin knows this, but I studied Kevin, I watched Kevin, I was so fascinated by Kevin Von Erich. To see his kids and Dustin, it was very touching.
Rhodes continued by noting his own family has yet another generation trying to break through in his nephews Dalton and Dylan but stressed they might not be ready to jump in the ring to even the odds with The Bloodline any time soon:
In addition to that, behind the curtain are my nephews Dalton and Dylan. They’re close with Dustin, and to see them go from playing around to the point where now I can see it–it’s one of those things where, once you start, you can’t stop. They’re both at the University of Texas and more than anything, my mom would like them to finish. But I look forward to the decisions they make. They’re not ready to wrestle Jacob Fatu just yet, but they’ll get there.
Cody Rhodes will face a friend rather than an enemy in his next Undisputed WWE Championship defence at Bash In Berlin.
