Randy Orton made a successful return to WWE at Survivor Series with Cody Rhodes marveling at the return of his wrestling mentor.

After 18 months on the shelf due to a major back injury that required surgery, Randy Orton made his WWE return at Survivor Series in the Men’s WarGames Match.

Throughout the night, the story was that Orton’s WarGames teammates Sami Zayn, Jey Uso and Seth “Freakin” Rollins were freaking out that Orton wasn’t going to show up. Cody Rhodes, who was the team captain, assured them that Orton would be there.

When the match began, the Rhodes team had four wrestlers out in front of the crowd while The Judgment Day’s team had Damian Priest, Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh and their one-night teammate Drew McIntyre with them. After the first nine guys made their entrance into the match, the clock ticked down for the tenth man and that’s when Randy Orton’s “Voices” song hit.

Randy Orton appeared in a WWE ring for the first time since May 2022 and he destroyed everybody in sight. It was vintage Orton hitting powerslams, draping DDTs and RKOs all over the place. The biggest move happened when Zayn & Rollins launched McDonagh off the top of the cage into an RKO by Orton. Instead of pinning JD, Cody hit Priest with the Cross Rhodes and pinned Priest for the victory.

Cody Rhodes Reveals What Randy Orton Told Him At Survivor Series

During the post-Survivor Series Press Conference that aired on YouTube, Cody Rhodes shared what Randy Orton told him while also speaking about what Orton meant to him.

“At the end of the match, Randy said to me, ‘Thanks for the phone call.’ And I wanted to tell him ‘Thanks for my career.’ I keep thinking this is going to end and I couldn’t have gotten to where I got had I not been around Randy.”

“Randy is so wild and chaotic and you hear all these funny stories about him and all this nonsense, but as a performer, a professional wrestler, WWE superstar. What an outstanding mentor he was to me truly.”

“I’ll never forget standing in the ring at the Royal Rumble when he won, pointing at the star WrestleMania sign and just thinking, ‘I want to be like him.’ That’s [as] nice as I’m gonna get about [him]. I was really touched.”

Now that Randy Orton is back in the mix in WWE, Cody Rhodes has a potential ally on his side although there will always be some fans wondering if The Viper (Orton) will turn on Rhodes at some point leading to a feud that a lot of fans want to see.
