Cody Rhodes Promises To Turn Heel

WWE star Cody Rhodes happy

Cody Rhodes knows change is coming.

Heading into Elimination Chamber, the biggest story in WWE revolved around whether Cody Rhodes would embrace his dark side and sell his soul to The Rock.

By the time the show rolled around, Rhodes told Rock to “go f*ck himself,” before being attacked by John Cena who turned heel to align with the WWE legend.

At the time, many fans and observers suggested that the short storyline was a trial run to see how well the audience would react to Rhodes switching up his character. Interestingly, Rhodes has now admitted that the change will come.

During an interview with Kay Adams, Rhodes was questioned about when people will know it’s time for him to turn heel.

“You’ll know because X and Instagram will hate it. Because today, heels are like, oh, that’s a cool heel. We’re loving John Cena, no, if you’re if you’re burying it and hate it and talking about how you don’t want it on your TV that’s what an actual bad guy is.”

When asked about when he might turn heel, Rhodes said he’s got a solid year left as a babyface, but admitted that timeframe could be stretched out.

“I think you have a good solid year, maybe even three years, because I am not changing until I’m changed, if that makes any sense. My hair is naturally dark. I don’t know if I could go back. But if The Rock had it his way, I would have been changed already. So I think he sees something that maybe I don’t see, and that’s a very smart individual. So maybe I follow his lead. Maybe not.”

The Rock Wanted Cody Rhodes To Turn Heel

The reference to The Great One further solidifies a report from back in March that The Rock wanted Cody Rhodes to turn heel instead of John Cena. Although discussions were held, it was decided it was the wrong time for Rhodes to make the jump, so attention turned to Cena.

Back in May, it was revealed that WWE was reluctant to turn Cody Rhodes heel, with several figures arguing that he’s much more valuable as a babyface. The report noted that WWE had a planned direction for Rhodes as a babyface through the rest of 2025.
