Cody Rhodes Addresses Possible Randy Orton Match

Cody Rhodes

Although Cody Rhodes will have a major challenge ahead of him on Saturday when he takes on Brock Lesnar, he’s already thinking about the future and that future might involve Randy Orton.

Cody and Orton have a long and storied history together. The two of them teamed together as part of Orton’s Legacy stable from 2008 to 2010 until The Legacy was disbanded.

As the years went by Orton and Cody crossed paths from time to time, with Orton having won most of their major encounters. Their final match together during Cody’s first WWE run was in 2014 wen Orton and Batista defeated Cody and Goldust.

Cody Rhodes agrees with fans and wants to have a dream match with Randy Orton

A lot changed between the Cody of 2014 and the Cody of 2022. One of Cody’s first matches in WWE after his return at WrestleMania 38 was an eight-man match that saw him team with Ezekiel, Riddle, and Orton against the team of Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, and the Usos.

After that match, there were some rumblings of a possible Cody/Orton match, but that contest has yet to materialize. Cody, though, is still interested in making that into a reality, per an interview with Billboard.

“It almost feels like it’s a first-time-ever match, because we wrestled against one another. We tagged together, we traveled together, but Randy arrived in WWE and was ready to go right out of the box.

I have taken every piece of that little broken road that I’ve been on to really build what the American Nightmare is. Who I am when I step into the ring, and having that confidence, knowing my skillset, strengths and weaknesses.

That’s why it comes across to me like this match never happened before, and I can only hope that Randy gets healthy and gets back to what he does — because he’s so, so, great at it.

That would be quite a match. I think that’s one people are whispering about right now, and I feel both of us would be open to it, if not very open to it.”

WWE has not mentioned Randy Orton in any way for some time now as he has been recovering from major back surgery. The last time he was in a WWE ring was well over a year ago and as of earlier this week he still has not been cleared to wrestle.
