Cody Rhodes Pitched Rivalry With Top WWE Star That Never Actually Happened

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has been one of the company’s top stars ever since he returned to the promotion at WrestleMania 38. After being unceremoniously released from the company earlier, he rebuilt his reputation on the independent circuit.

After co-founding AEW, he returned to WWE and has since become the face of the promotion. Being the biggest face wrestler on the roster, the promotion rewarded Cody with a podcast of his own.

He regularly hosts the What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, where he has several WWE stars as his guests. He welcomed Finn Balor on the most recent episode of the podcast as his guest.

Cody Rhodes pitched a match with Finn Balor during his first WWE run

During a conversation with Balor, Cody revealed that he pitched a match with Finn during his first run in the promotion, when Finn was still in NXT. He said that he wanted the Demon version of Balor face off against Stardust, but the idea never came to fruition.

Right before I left, when I was doing Stardust, I wrote Hunter like a four-page email, which you know how that goes. Any time it’s more than a page, it’s probably already an issue. That’s a lot for someone to look at and sit down and give their time over. I really wanted to wrestle The Demon as Stardust because Stardust had no legitimacy. It was all comedy, but there was one match or one moment away from providing it some credibility, even in a losing effort, and I remember I wrote this whole email about it, and I don’t know what happened,” Cody said.

While Cody Rhodes has vowed that we’ve seen the end of Stardust, he could face off against The Demon Finn Balor on the main roster now. Balor vowed to bring gold back to the Judgment Day this year, and the two former Bullet Club members could enter a program this year.
