Cody Rhodes Reveals What People Told Him About WWE Comeback
Cody Rhodes is main eventing WrestleMania 40 on both nights with the fans fully behind him, but some people didn’t think it would go that way.
In early 2022, Cody Rhodes’ three-year run with All Elite Wrestling came to an end perhaps quicker than most people thought. Cody was an AEW founder, so to have him walk away from the company was a shock to many people at the time.
At WrestleMania 38, Cody Rhodes was the surprise opponent of Seth Rollins in what was one of the best matches of that show when Cody got the big win. Cody was officially back in WWE after leaving six years earlier. This time, Cody was in a main event position. Cody would go on to win the 2023 and 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble matches as well.
Since his return to WWE, Cody has been one of the top babyfaces in all of WWE even though he has yet to hold the WWE Title or the World Heavyweight Title.
While speaking to ESPN, Cody Rhodes claimed that some people told him that the fans would turn on him, but it’s two years later and the “American Nightmare” is as popular as ever.
“I got so many people when I first came back, like, ‘Hey, they’ll be booing him in two months. Oh, they’ll be booing him in a year.’ I have the privilege, but also the burden of, I’m playing myself. This is a real story. My father, I wanted him to be WWF Champion.”
“I still have that title. And the fact that he didn’t get it and I felt he deserved it. And in his absence, after he passed, you hear so much about him now. It’s that one little piece that nags at me, that’s really finishing the story.”
Cody Rhodes Trying To Bounce Back After Getting Attacked By The Rock
WrestleMania 40 is just days away with Cody Rhodes set to compete in two of the biggest matches of his life. At WrestleMania 40 Saturday, Cody teams with Rollins against The Rock & Roman Reigns. If Cody’s team wins that then his WrestleMania 40 Sunday match with Reigns will be free of The Bloodline, according to The Rock. However, if Rock & Reigns wins then it will be Bloodline Rules when Cody challenges Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
Cody Rhodes will go into WrestleMania 40 with some battle scars since The Rock bloodied him on the March 25th edition of Raw. Cody will try to bounce back on tonight’s April 1st episode of Raw from Brooklyn, which is just five days before WrestleMania 40 begins.
