How Cody Rhodes Overshadowed Others With Show Stealing Match
Cody Rhodes has made a bizarre claim about one show where he thinks he upset people by having the loudest reaction he doesn’t think he was meant to have.
Cody Rhodes is no stranger to loud reactions, with perhaps the loudest of his career coming at WrestleMania 40 when Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns to become the Undisputed WWE Champion for the very first time.
Before his return to WWE, Rhodes was a founding member of AEW, but before even that company was formed, The American Nightmare went all in with The Young Bucks to put on the biggest independent show in years, the original All In.
On that show, Rhodes was in the middle of the card, but there was no doubt that his NWA World Heavyweight Championship match was the one many of the fans packed into the Sears Center had come to see. This was Rhodes’ chance to win the title that his legendary father, Dusty Rhodes, had held several times, long before his goal to become WWE Champion – the title Dusty never won – came to fruition.
But Cody Rhodes thinks he wasn’t meant to steal that show, and it might have rubbed people the wrong way.
Was Cody Rhodes Meant To Steal The Show At All In?
Speaking on his What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Rhodes admitted his competitive pride left him proud that he and Aldis were able to elicit such a reaction from the crowd:
I thought Nick (Aldis) was such a fun experience because ALL IN, that was the loudest the arena got that night and I don’t think we were the match that was meant to get them that loud, and I remember having a sense of just competitive pride. Not ego, not mad at anybody – that we were the ones that got to steal the show on a show we weren’t supposed to steal.
What many fans watching the build to All In might find odd is that Rhodes’ match with Aldis was one of only two title matches on the show, and much of the build was centred around his bout. The main event match featuring The Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi facing Rey Mysterio, Rey Fenix, and Bandido had its time cut as the show almost ran out of time on pay-per-view.
