Cody Rhodes Open To WrestleMania Triple Threat
Cody Rhodes is willing to take on all challengers at WrestleMania, including more than one at once.
With WWE Elimination Chamber only a few days away, there’s still no knowing what who will walk out of the PLE as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Although Roman Reigns is still the odds-on favorite to win, the possibility of some other outcomes grows more likely with each passing day.
Among those possibilities includes the idea of some Dusty (i.e. inconclusive) finish in the match between Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn that could see neither man declared winner or loser.
Aware of such a possibility, Cody Rhodes explained to Ariel Helwani on his MMA Hour program that he would be open to facing both Reigns and Zayn in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 39.
“No, I don’t really have a preference. Solely because I want to wrestle the best. People wanted a contender forever. So if two show up, don’t be mad.”
“Don’t make it about A or B, or B or A, or one or two. Enjoy it all. That’s really been kind of the challenge.”
“I can’t begrudge a dude for getting super hot. I have no preference in terms of the direction it goes.”
“I really look forward to the moments when I’m in there if they happen, Sami, whether that’s just on the Road to WrestleMania, because I think it’s different than people think. I think he’s doing amazing.”
Historically, WrestleMania’s main-events – and indeed, the main-events of most pro-wrestling shows – have mostly been one-on-one matches. However, there have been a few notable exceptions over the years, most of which have been in more recent years.
Some famous triple threat matches to main-event WrestleMania include:
- Randy Orton vs. Batista vs. Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX
- Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Edge at WrestleMania 37
- Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35
- Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit at WrestleMania XX
- Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31 (note: while this didn’t start as a triple threat match, Rollins inserted himself into the match while it was underway, thus turning a singles match into a triple threat)
