Cody Rhodes Allegedly On Path To Heel Turn — Major Hint Dropped
Cody Rhodes’ heel turn may be around the corner.
The Rock wanted the American Nightmare to turn heel earlier this year, but WWE rejected his pitch, citing potential revenue losses as the reason.
Rhodes has instead carried on as the Stamford-based company’s top babyface since returning in 2022.
His most recent match, however, carried traces of him being on a path to a heel turn.
Cody Rhodes faced 14-time world champion Randy Orton in the final of the King of the Ring Tournament at Night of Champions on June 28.
At one point in the match, Orton exposed one of the turnbuckles in order to gain an advantage.
The move, though, backfired, as Rhodes sent Orton ribs-first into the steel before hitting him with Cross Rhodes for the pinfall.
Rhodes’ decision to put the veteran through hurt has been seen as a hint towards him becoming a heel in the near future.
Sam Roberts and Megan Morant discussed it on the recent WWE Raw Recap episode.
Sam Roberts: You think Cody’s on the path to becoming a villain?
Megan Morant: I don’t wanna see it. Could be. I mean, good guys don’t throw their friends into turnbuckles that are exposed. [41:37 onwards]
Cody Rhodes Recently Discussed Turning Heel
Cody Rhodes’ potential heel turn has been a topic of discussion since the Elimination Chamber PLE in March.
The Rock offered him the choice to align with him, but he declined it impolitely.
During an interview with Kay Adams, he was asked about the possibility of turning into a villain in the future.
“I think you have a good solid year, maybe even three years, because I am not changing until I’m changed, if that makes any sense. My hair is naturally dark. I don’t know if I could go back. But if The Rock had it his way, I would have been changed already. So I think he sees something that maybe I don’t see, and that’s a very smart individual. So maybe I follow his lead. Maybe not,” he replied.
Cody Rhodes will face John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam, thanks to his KOTR victory.
