Cody Rhodes’ On-Screen Enemy Among His “Very Few” Friends In Wrestling

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has revealed who one of his few close friends is in the pro wrestling business.

One of the most personal rivalries in WWE to end 2024 and lead to a huge grudge match in 2025 was between the former WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. The story was that Owens was jealous of Cody teaming with Roman Reigns, whom Owens hates, so it led to Owens turning heel on both Cody and Randy Orton.

At the Royal Rumble, Cody Rhodes beat Kevin Owens in a brutal Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship that saw Cody give Owens an Alabama Slam through a ladder to put Owens down for good in that match. Cody would go on to climb the ladder to keep his title.

On Cody’s What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, Rhodes spoke at length with Owens about their lives in pro wrestling. In the introduction for his guest, Cody called Owens one of his friends in the wrestling business.

Cody Rhodes: “This guest I didn’t think of an intro for because this is one of my friends in the wrestling business. My father used to say he probably had five friends in the wrestling business and then he would list them out, it would seem more like three. DDP always excited that he remained one of those digits. But one of my very few friends in the entire business, uh, former everything champion. WrestleMania Saturday Night Main Eventer, all the things you can possibly do. All the things you can possibly do and somebody who changed the course…”

Kevin Owens: “Except Sunday night.”

The comment from Owens was a reference to the fact that, although he has headlined WrestleMania Saturday twice, he has yet to headline WrestleMania Sunday. Cody Rhodes has done it three times already, along with a WrestleMania Saturday main event. Cody continued.

Cody: “And somebody who changed the course of professional wrestling in general by the things he did. Changed my course at least, helping me out, sending me out into the unknown with the proper information, which I needed at the time.

Following my career, keeping up with me, one of my, again, I might be like my dad with five friends, maybe it’s less, he is certainly one of them, an exceptional human being. A lover of zoos, this guy loves the zoos, folks, and a dinosaur man as well, please welcome to What Do You Wanna Talk About, the one and only Kevin Owens.”
