Cody Rhodes Knows He Failed As AEW EVP
Cody Rhodes has admitted he failed as an EVP in AEW but is keeping his options open for a similar role in the future in WWE.
Cody Rhodes was one of the driving forces behind the formation of AEW in 2019 after he and The Young Bucks found incredible success with the self-funded All In show in 2018.
Rhodes, The Bucks, and Kenny Omega took on Executive Vice President roles with Tony Khan’s company but that didn’t stop The American Nightmare from jumping ship and returning to WWE in 2022.
Since then Cody Rhodes has become WWE Champion and with that role, Rhodes has found himself flirting with the corporate side of the business once again.
Cody Rhodes Excited By Leadership Opportunities In WWE
Speaking in a sitdown interview with Cathy Kelley, Cody Rhodes explained the responsibilities he has and said he’s excited about being part of the business side of WWE while he admitted that he felt like a failure after his time as an AEW EVP:
There are some things that come with it that were surprising to me. It might sound cool, it might sound cheesy. There is an element of leadership involved that they don’t say, they just kind of plug you in. You’re attending corporate meetings and events that you would typically be out of your depth at, and you’re supposed to be there and be on. That’s something that has really excited me.
In the past, I felt like when I had a leadership role in wrestling, I didn’t do well with it. I feel like I failed with it, but I knew why perhaps I failed with it. This has been an opportunity to plug back in. Maybe there is a future beyond the actual wrestling with WWE in a different setting. That’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.
Cody Rhodes recently revealed his AEW exit came about due to an “icky situation” but claims it had nothing to do with his wife Brandi or Tony Khan.
