When did Cody Rhodes learn of his WrestleMania plans?

Cody Rhodes is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania, but the journey has already been filled with several twists and turns.

Ever since Rhodes lost to Reigns at WrestleMania 39 it was believed he would go on to get revenge a year later. However, that changed on the January 1st episode of Raw when The Rock returned and referenced Reigns in a promo. Come to the start of February, Rhodes stepped aside to let The Rock challenge Reigns on SmackDown.

However, after significant backlash from fans, things seemed to flip again. Rock is now a heel, and Rhodes is back in position to face Reigns.

Writing in the Wrestling Observing Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that even when The Rock agreed to face Reigns, Rhodes was kept in the dark, only finding out he was being replaced in the match at the Royal Rumble.

“He was told he was facing Reigns in the fall. He was not told about Rock getting the match as part of his deal on 1/3 so any interview he did about finishing the story prior to the Rumble was with the idea he was definitely in the match, even with the Rock rumors out. He was told the day of the Rumble that Rock was facing Reigns even though he was winning the Rumble.

He was also told that they would be going to Reigns against him later so all the post-match stuff building that match wasn’t there to swerve people as much a build a later match. But the fact it was not going to be Reigns vs. Rhodes was keep secret from almost everyone (obviously a few knew) because Rock wanted the angle the next Friday a surprise.”

Cody Rhodes To Appear At Elimination Chamber

Before he gets to WrestleMania, Cody Rhodes will come face to face with Seth Rollins at Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia.

The pair are set to meet on a special edition of the Grayson Waller Effect after they appeared to bury the hatchet on Raw. Rollins threw his weight behind Rhodes in his battle with Roman Reigns, pledging to be his shield.
