Cody Rhodes Injured After Sick WWE Royal Rumble Brawl

Cody Rhodes

The WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is hurting after a Ladder Match war with Kevin Owens.

At the WWE Royal Rumble, the Men’s and Women’s Rumble matches were the highlights of the show for a lot of people since both of them lasted over one hour. However, the WWE Title match between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens could be what the fans remember the most.

It was a Ladder Match between WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens, who claimed he was the champion while holding the Winged Eagle version of the WWE Title. Both titles were hanging above the ring during the match.

Throughout the match, Rhodes and Owens used multiple ladders as weapons, including a smaller ladder that was used by both men to throw at their opponent. Both men also took some big bumps onto ladders including when Owens suplexed Rhodes off the turnbuckle and onto a ladder in the ring.

At the conclusion of the match, Rhodes and Owens battled by the commentary table while a ladder was bridged from the apron to the commentary table. That led to Cody countering Owens and giving Owens an Alabama Slam through the ladder bridge. Owens was out while laying on a broken ladder and Cody went back into the ring, climbed a ladder and retrieved the two WWE Titles to win the match.

During the WWE Royal Rumble Post-Show, Jackie Redmond gave a health update on Cody Rhodes that suggests that the WWE Champion could be injured.

“I also have it on good authority that ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes is dealing with multiple injuries. I can’t confirm the intensity or severity of those injuries, but what I can tell you is that they’re bad enough that Cody will not be addressing the media in tonight’s press conference.

In fact, his in-ring status might even be up in the air as well. What I can confirm for you is that Cody Rhodes will still attend Friday Night SmackDown this week.”

Since it’s WWE, it’s always possible that the Cody Rhodes injury story is just part of a storyline to put over just how physical the Rhodes/Owens match was.

Cody Rhodes Likely To Face Elimination Chamber Match Winner At WrestleMania 41

The Men’s Royal Rumble winner was Jey Uso, who has made it clear that he’s likely going to use his Rumble win to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania rather than going after his former tag team championship partner Rhodes.

That means the winner of the Men’s Elimination Chamber match on March 1st will probably be the man who Cody Rhodes defends the WWE Title against. John Cena has made it clear he’s determined to win the Elimination Chamber match. The Rhodes-Cena match has been rumored in the past, so that could be WWE’s way of setting it up.
